Submission process

Entries are welcome from every genre from emerging to established film makers. The selection committee are expected to evaluate thousands of submissions, after which films will be chosen to be screened at the festival. The following awards will be presented on the Final evening and gala of the festival

Shujaa (Legend) Award
The Living Legend Award recognizes and honours legendary figures that have distinguished themselves by their contributions as leaders; trailblazers, trendsetters, teachers and/or mentors. The OOAIFF Living Legend award is dedicated to recognizing those members of the entertainment industry whose efforts and contributions have paved the way for many in the entertainment industry. It also honours those unsung heroes whose efforts might otherwise go unnoticed. The Living Legend award exists because of a need to recognize and promote the achievements of those individuals and to help secure their place in history.

The Ushindi awards for film will include:
1. The best short film
2. The best feature film
3. Best documentary
4. Best director
5. Best Male performance
6. Best Female performance
7. Best cinematography
8. Best screenplay
9. Best animated film
10. Best comedy
11. Best student Film
12. Best Original sound track
13. Best County film
14. Best East African Film
15. Best foreign film
16. Best special interest film
17. Best Spoken word (poetry)
18. Best student Drama (high school)
19. Best Local language
20. Best Slum film
21. Best Musical theatre
22. Best Diaspora film

Wananchi's choice (audience choice) awards:
1. Best feature film
2. Best documentary
3. Best short film
4. Best TV series

Film categories
1. Feature films
- These are any films 50 minutes or over in length.
2. Documentary films
3. Short films
- Any film that is 1 minute to 49 minutes (including credits).
4. Animated films

Judging process
The selections are made by our members of the jury. Critics and artists debate and determine the most outstanding achievements of the year. Films and videos released after January 2014 and those that premiere at the Out of Africa International Film Festival will be given special consideration.

16 March 2015 - Open Period begins for submissions
Early bird submission - Open 16 March 2014
Submission deadline for early submission- 12 April 2015
Early bird entry fee ksh 600/ USD 10
Regular submission - Open 13 April 2014
Submission deadline - 10 May 2015
Regular entry fees ksh 900/ USD 20

Only submissions accompanied by the correct fee, and received by the allocated deadline will be considered. No submissions will be accepted after 10 May 2015

Payment
* Payments must be made in Kenya shillings or USD.
* Submission fee is per film and is payable by credit card and PayPal.
* Films submitted without payment WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED and the submission will be deleted.


Eligibility
To be eligible for the competition:
1. Entrants must comply with the entry Rules and Regulations including all deadlines, film length, entry materials and any other that have been set.
2. Non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time submitted. Dialogue lists will not be accepted.

The Team

Rose Wachuka

Rose is a Parisian multilingual archivist specialized in audiovisual. She's well equipped with a broad range of skills and experience to include being a 7th art critic, Translator, Interpreter, Poet, Script writer, art and Photography critical reader.

Wairimu Mwangi
Wairimu is a socio-entrepreneur with various interests in Film, the Arts and promoting healthy lifestyles in society. She has a Masters in Science in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE) in the UK. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has worked in various capacities particularly in policy research with the government, non-governmental organizations and in the private sector. Her interest in film stems from High school days when she was awarded a Best Actress Award in the National drama festival involving 30 schools. She has also acted in various documentaries in Kenya. She is also a Yogi with the African Yoga Project.

Mumbi Hinga
Having a passion for arts and entertainment led Esther to being part of the African acapella group called Pambazuka and performed in many events in Sydney, Australia until 2011. She joined Afro-Australia movie and music Awards (AAMMA) based in Sydney, Australia, in 2011 and is currently the Vice President. Mumbi has been a member of Sisters With A Vision Inc (SWAV) since 2010; an association involved with multicultural community development and event management and is currently the president. Through SWAV, she has been involved in many community building activities and a notable example is fundraising for the charity OASIS Africa during the filming of celebrity apprentice, Australia
Mumbi is a member of the Australian Film Institute.
