Mumbi Kaigwa is a performer, writer and producer of theatre, film and TV. She is a founding director of Kenya's The Theatre Company, the co-author of a series of storybooks based on the lives of four South Sudanese girls and has also been in films such as "The Constant Gardener" and "The Knife Grinder's Tale".

Mumbi was Editorial Producer of "Heart and Soul", a social-issues soap opera that was broadcast on radio and TV in 13 African countries in 2003. She also produced her first play "The Voice of a Dream" in 2002.

In 2003, Mumbi produced Kenya's first V-Day Worldwide Campaign. "The Campaign", which has become an annual event in Kenya, uses the play The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to end violence against women and girls.

In March and April 2006 Mumbi took her play "KigeziNdoto" to the World Music Theatre Festival (WMTF), touring in Holland, Italy and Belgium. A CD featuring music from the show was produced by WMTF and Pan Records.

Married, with two teenage children, Mumbi is a board member of Media Development for Africa (MEDEVA Ltd.), the Sarakasi Trust and the Maisha Film Lab, all of which are based in Africa.

She served as President of Women Playwrights International, a global body which organizes tri-annual conferences for women playwrights from November 2003 - April 2005.
