Born in 1983 in a small town outside Nairobi and coming from a family of seven , Ruth Maingi is very outgoing ,experimental..loves fashion, a stylist in her own right and very opiniated. All through her growing up she loved performing, at a tender age of 5 in kindergarten doing plays and musicals through to high school where she won awards for 'best actress' since childhood she knew for sure that she was destined for this and as they say home is where the heart is…
After graduating high school she enrolled with the Kenya Performing Art School where she studied theatre and dance for 3years. Ruth majored in African dance, Contemporary dance, Jazz and Traditional dances, Theatre movement, Stage acting and screen .She also learnt how to model, catwalk and photoghraphy. With this training she felt well prepared to take on my passion professionally and there was the launch of my career.

Her current lead role is on KTN's Mama Duka. The show won the Best Indigenous Language Movie award during the 2014 Africa Magic Viewer's Choice Award (AMVCAs). Ruth has had supporting roles on Saints, Wash and Set and Dramas of Life. She has been on theatre productions for The Arts Canvas and The Theatre Company.

Ruth can speak English, Kiswahili, Luo and Kamba. She enjoys dancing when not on the screen or stage. She's also been on commercials for CBA, Kenya Tea Board, Mumias Sugar, Mortein Doom amongst many others. She too happens to be a stylist who styled Season Two of Lies That Bind. For this she took home the 2014 Best Costume Designer trophy at the AMVCAs.
