My
Painting is based on memories of my African childhood. I have at the top of the body, their forms, and faces. My job is not to return as they are in reality, but to rebuild the rhythm, the momentum, the look, the contour, posture, heat.
I live in this world of lost images, I must be living. At the outset of each of my paintings, there is the pleasure of the gesture and colours that gradually create the image. Each canvas is an adventure; the brush is taken me unless I know exactly the outcome. The need to create images gives me the freedom to do as my eyes and my hand decide.
